How to Use Your Step Up Scholarship for SAT and ACT Prep

Use your Step Up scholarship for SAT and ACT prep with World Class Tutoring

If your family has a Step Up For Students (SUFS) scholarship, you can use that funding to pay for SAT and ACT prep with World Class Tutoring! We’re an approved Step Up provider, which means your scholarship can pay us directly.

Ready to get started? Tell us about your student to let us know you’d like to use your Step Up funds. Then we’ll take it from there.

Who This Guide Is For

This guide is for Florida families whose student already has one of these two scholarships:

  • Personalized Education Program (PEP): for K to 12 students whose education is directed by their parents and who aren’t enrolled full time in a public or private school, which includes many homeschool families.
  • Unique Abilities (FES-UA): for students from age 3 through grade 12 who have an IEP or a qualifying diagnosis.

If your student has a private school scholarship (FTC or FES-EO), tutoring is an allowed expense too, but tuition comes out of the account first.  You’ll need to check your available balance in EMA after paying any tuition.

What Your Scholarship Can Pay For

We’re approved with Step Up for part time tutoring services, for both individual and group sessions.  Everything we do is live and online, so it doesn’t matter where in Florida you live.

Private tutoring: One on one sessions for the SAT or ACT, built around your student’s goals, schedule, and test date.

Live classes: Small group SAT and ACT classes taught live on Zoom, with an average of 2-10 students in each class.

Our classes run in an ongoing format, so your student can start any time, and most students attend about one class a week during the school year. If your student misses a class, a recording is available.  Our classroom students will get a weekly email with all the details for that week, and they can see what’s coming up long term using our class calendar.

Classes also come with a full year of access to our online practice platform, which we use for homework and which includes 12 additional practice tests and hundreds of drills.

Step Up only approves tutors who hold a qualifying credential, such as a teaching certificate, and your student will work with a World Class Tutoring tutor who has that approval.

Not sure which option fits your student?  Let us know when you fill out the form, and we’ll be happy to make a recommendation.

How to Sign Up, Step by Step

  1. Tell us about your student. Fill out our short Tell Us About Your Student form, and in the “Tell us more” box, let us know you’d like to use Step Up funds.
  2. Talk through a plan with us. We’ll reach out to learn about your student’s goals and upcoming test dates, and then recommend private tutoring, a live class, or both. We’ll also go over pricing so you know what to expect before you reserve anything.
  3. Reserve your funds in EMA. Log in to your EMA account, click Marketplace, and then Find Providers. Select your student, choose Part-Time Tutoring Services as the service category, and search for World Class Tutoring. Add the service to your cart and click Reserve Funds.
  4. Your student gets to work! Sessions happen live online, on the schedule we set up together.
  5. We bill Step Up after sessions happen. Step Up pays providers only after a service has been delivered, so we submit our invoice through EMA once your student’s sessions are complete, and payment comes out of the funds you reserved. There’s nothing to pay out of pocket and no reimbursement request to fill out.

We will never ask for your EMA username or password. Step Up doesn’t allow providers to access a family’s account, and you can do everything above yourself.

Questions Parents Ask

Do I have to pay anything up front?

No. Because we’re set up for direct billing through EMA, your scholarship pays us after your student’s sessions take place.

We don’t live anywhere near you. Does that matter?

Not at all! All of our tutoring and classes are live on zoom, and Step Up allows credentialed tutors to work with students online.

Can I use my funds for both a class and private tutoring?

Yes, as long as your student’s account has enough available funds to reserve both.

What if I’m not sure how much is in my account?

Your available balance shows in EMA. Step Up deposits scholarship funds quarterly, so it’s a good idea to check your balance before you reserve a service.

Don’t Have a Scholarship Yet?

Step Up For Students is the nonprofit that manages these scholarships for the state of Florida, and applying is done through their website. According to Step Up, the PEP scholarship averages $8,000 per year and the Unique Abilities scholarship averages $10,000 per year.

For this school year, new applications for the Unique Abilities scholarship are open through November 15, 2026. Availability for the other scholarships changes during the year, so the best place to see what’s open right now is Step Up’s scholarship page.

Once your student has been awarded a scholarship, come back to this guide and start with step one!
